Funny stuff on the internet

A skit based on an actual event mind you. Kind of a SNL point-counterpoint covering a real story. Basically the real story was... Hellenic (Greek) naval architects signed off on a ship design that was later (2 months later) discovered to be inherently flawed when the first built ship had the bow literally fall off. This was not in "heavy" seas either.

That is both very amusing and terrifying at the same time. I hope the actual ship wasn't carrying anything?

The ship was carrying Oil.... and a bow.... and a fire.... all of which it left in the sea. No joke. Only 20,000 tons though, sadly thats a real small number for oil spills.

Anyway, this comprises the most interesting parts of my day: Learning about famous ship incidents. If you would like to hear about more I could rustle up a few more links, but most aren't quite as comical.

Thats the point actually. She isn't Greek by origin, but since Hellenic seaways signs off on cheep shit they used their standards. They call it a "flag of convenience." It would be like me showing a CU student ID to people despite the fact that I went to mines properly and only went to CU for one class. In this case it would be something like my CU ID lets me off the hook in places and ride the bus for free. Using a different flag means you are answerable to that country's government. Some are way less strict than others, in both punishments and building requirements.
